A Better Way To Think About Evil Doers

We will always come across people who rather than acting in good and helpful ways, seem bent on pursuing evil. What are we meant to do with that? Should we be afraid of those who do evil? Would we be more successful if we joined them? What about if we have become trapped in an evil pattern of behaviour ourselves (eg. pornography)?

Seek Good And Find Favour

'Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.' Proverbs 11:27

Certainly we must be clear that if we pursue good, for ourselves and for others, then in the end we will find favour. The Lord hates evil (Prov 8:13) and he will not tolerate evil winning the day. On the flip side, if we seek out evil, then evil will come looking for us. Not a pretty picture.

What About When Those Doing Evil Intentionally Try Bring Down Those Doing Good

'Whoever leads the upright along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.' Proverbs 28:10

God will not be mocked. He has created this world in wisdom and he has an uncanny knack of allowing those who act in evil ways get what is coming to them. He is God after all.

How to Stay On the Straight Path

'Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.' Proverbs 4:26-27

We will constantly come across situations where we have the option to step off the path of doing good and to take a side root down the downward track of evil. We need to note those moments, and seek the Lord to do good. Thankfully for us, Jesus has come and walked this path for us. His blood covers us when we fail, and his Spirit empowers us as we turn to him for help to keep following the path he set. That means our great hope stands in admitting the evil we have done, receiving Jesus forgiveness, and then walking with him on the path of favour and blessing in relationship with our heavenly Father.
